VPS originally opened in 1957 on Elgin Air Force Base and offered two flights per day. Since then, the airport has grown to offer over 50 flights a day and is one of the leading airports in the Panhandle. Allegiant, American Airlines, Delta, Silver Airways, and United all service VPS and provide nonstop service to many cities throughout the eastern half of the US.
